What is Temporary Transit ?
Temporary Transit (TT) or buy-back is a customs and tax provision that allows any person residing outside the European community territory (including French overseas departments and territories) to have a new vehicle during their stay in Europe and to acquire it for a limited period, exempt from customs duties and VAT.
You thus benefit from a specific French registration allowing free movement in Europe. It is also possible to take advantage of this scheme without having to pay the full price of the vehicle.
This formula, known under the generic term of buy-back, is very similar to a car rental.
At the end of the period, the vehicle is taken back by the company managing this system. In TT, you reserve a new vehicle of the Renault, Peugeot, Citroën, or DS brand, model and engine type of your choice.
The TT package includes a new vehicle; unlimited mileage, comprehensive insurance without excess, 24/7 assistance
Packages, Delivery and Return
Depending on the brand, packages are offered starting from 17 or 21 days, departing from about forty airports or cities in France, and about ten airports in Europe.
You can pick up the vehicle in one city and return it in another, including abroad (Barcelona, Lisbon, Brussels, etc.)
Avantages of the Temporary Transit
Who can drive your vehicle ?
- The contract holder (whose name is listed on the vehicle's registration certificate)
- The spouse, decsendants, direct ancestors of the contract holder provided that they meet the same conditions for obtaining temporary transit registration as the contract holder
The question of accessories
If you want a car seat, the system in place involves purchasing the seat, which remains your property at the end of the vehicle use period
This also applies to any other accessory that is not provided as standard on the requested vehicle. Be aware of the additional cost that may result from the need to use certain accessories
